I really, really enjoy playing Dave Matthews Band songs on the guitar. I started playing in December of 1999, I got my first guitar for Christmas that year. Dave's pretty much the reason I got started playing.

The first couple songs I learned were: "I'll Back You Up" and "Lover Lay Down." I learned both of these, of course, to play for the opposite sex. They're both really easy to get started with. The rhythms are slow and gentle which makes getting the song "down", pretty easy and fun.

Now, into some of the harder stuff... As I started to get a little better, and my left hand began to find those frets a little easier and quicker, more and more songs started to blossom. I think one of the most important things to remember when trying to play some of the harder, faster DMB songs, is to just play! Don't worry about getting each individual note covered, just try to find it and move on. On songs like "Warehouse" and "Rapunzel" (which, along with the Pantala...intro, is one of my favs) the specific notes aren't really that important because there's so much other percussive strumming and muting. "Rapunzel" is a really good song to figure out as a beginner. The song is quite simple. Mostly 5th chords during the verses. Learning the way that Dave makes his chords and the awkward variations he uses is very important as well.
